The Association of Critical Economics (AEC) was created in 2003 with a dual objective. On the one hand, to support the organization of the Critical Economics Conferences, which have been held biennially in the Spanish State since 1987, and which will celebrate their 20th edition in 2026. On the other hand, to sustain the Critical Economics Journal, which has been published semi-annually since 2003.
Today, almost four decades after its founding, and remaining faithful to the social and political commitment that inspired its creation, the AEC seeks to contribute to the development and dissemination of economic knowledge from diverse theoretical approaches, such as post-Keynesian economics, ecological economics, feminist economics, Marxist economics, and institutional economics, both within the university sphere of teaching and research and in its broader projection toward society as a whole.
Its ultimate goal is to integrate the various contributions that different approaches to economics have made to economic analysis, since only in this way can reality be better understood and explained and, therefore, an inclusive response be outlined to meet the demands of the current socio-ecological crisis. The AEC also strives to build bridges among all those who, from a critical perspective, wish to contribute to reversing the civilizational crisis we are experiencing, because only through cohesion and collective work can our voice gain strength.
researchers from different universities and research centers across the Spanish State make up the AEC, eight of whom form its Executive Board.

The AEC’s main areas of work are three, all aimed at the plural, theoretical, and methodological development of economic knowledge relevant for understanding social reality:
Teaching
Research
In addition to publishing the Critical Economics Journal, the AEC publishes a quarterly bulletin and its activity reports.
Knowledge transfer
Entre los eventos a destacar la AEC se encuentran las Jornadas de Economía Crítica. Además de estas, merece reseñarse las Escuelas de Verano y la colaboración en los Congresos de Economía Feminista.
